Mystic Booth Spray Or Hand Held Airspray?

Choosing the booth or hand held airbrush depends on your preferences. Many people prefer the tanning booth because it is heated, fast, and automated. Others lean towards the hand held airspray for a more tailored coverage.

Everything to Know Before, During & After Spray Tan

What should I do before a spray tan?

Schedule your massages, waxes and mani/pedis before.

If you shave, do so beforehand but not immediately before. If you must shave the day of spray tan, rinse with cold water to close pores.  This will ensure no little brown dots.

Exfoliate – Most Important!  This helps tan last and look its best.  Its best to exfoliate the day/evening before.  The morning of spray is ok if appointment is later in the day.

Important not to wear anything on skin to tanning appointment.  No perfume, cream, lotions, deodorant or makeup!  Come with a clean canvas.

What to expect during spray tan?

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable.

You can wear a bikini, some underwear or go fully commando.  Disposable underwear will be offered.  If you bring your own, make sure it is dark colored.

Tell your artist if you have skin conditions such as a rash, dry patches, sensitivity, eczema, psoriasis, discoloration, and/or are that lighten quicker.

Tell the artist if you are pregnant, in which you should consult a doctor.  If you get the go ahead, have artist do patch test on your skin.  Your skin could be more sensitive than usual.  If you are breastfeeding, let artist know so that nipples can be avoided.

What do I need to know about after spray tan?

Spray tans can take up to 12 hours to develop.  While tan is developing, you should completely avoid getting wet.  This includes perspiring, swimming, showering, and getting caught in the rain.  However, there are rapid solutions that the artist will inform you on developing time.  It’s best to sleep in your new spray tan to allow development.  When you sleep, your body heats up, opens pores and allows the tanning agent to work its full potential.  Follow up in the morning with a luke warm shower with mild soap.  Be aware that your tan will appear darker than it actually is.  When you rinse of the bronzer in the morning,  you will have a milder developed tan.

Thoroughly rinse bronzer off until water is clear below you.

Showers with a spray tan should not be scolding hot for tan to last.

While sleeping in your new tan, be aware that the bronzer can rub off on your crisp white sheets.  You could wear long, dark sleepwear or wash sheets with soap and water to remove.

You will want to wear loose dark clothing home from spray tan.  If you avoid wearing tight cuffed clothing – tan will last longer.

Flip flops are best to wear the first 12 hours.  Shoes can mess up the development process.

Jewelry worn while tan develops can cause marks.

Avoid skin touching skin while tan develops, as it could cause a dark spot.

To wash your hands while tan develops, use a baby wipe on your palms. It is important not to get hands wet while developing.

Avoid body treatments such as facials and massages.  The chemicals could effect the outcome of your tan.

If you workout frequently, you may find that your tan fades unevenly.  It could help by moisturizing everyday to ensure tan is even.

Moisturizing aftercare is important.  Spray tans could cause skin dryness.

Drink an abundance of fluids to stay hydrated.

How long will spray tan last?

7-12 days

Face and hands a shorter time since you’re (hopefully) washing them more.

Taking lukewarm showers with a gentle soap helps tan to last. Pat dry skin.

It’s best to use body wash and lotion recommended for post spray tan care.  It is important to keep skin moisturized.

Mineral oil, grapeseed oil and coconut oil can strip your tan.

Drink lots of water to keep hydrated.

Will spray tan turn me orange?

Nowadays, spray tanning technology is incredibly precise. We always apply a pH spray on the skin before the spray.   This step insures that the skin has the right all over balance.  Also, we are trained to use the correct DHA percentage for your skin tone.  The rest is in the client’s hands.  If someone comes in with lotions, perfumes or other chemicals, that could cause changes in outcome.  Also, listen closely to the time you are advised to rinse.  Rinse times are very important.  They determine how the tan develops.  If you follow the steps above, you will have an amazing natural looking tan.
